how can I help

As a Microsoft Partner I specialise primarily, but not exclusively, in their products.  Their rules and regulations mean that I have to stay trained and certified on all their latest technologies, and it also means I have good access to their specialists.  I can channel all their expertise to your business.

But being completely independent, I'm not tied to using their products.  Typically, there isn't a single, simple, one-size-fits-all solution, and I've seen enough sizes and shapes to recognise that.

These are some of the things I can help you with, you can click on the headings to see more details.

The most important thing I can do is talk to you.  This lets me get an idea of how you are using IT systems at the moment, identify anything you could perhaps do more efficiently, and help ensure you plan any future developments as cost-effectively as possible.

Getting your infrastructure right is absolutely key to using your IT systems efficiently.  For a small business that might mean something as simple as having an external disk box to keep all your data backed up, a growing business might benefit from a workgroup server, and big business efficiency can be transformed through virtualisation and high-availability systems.

websites / development
Web design isn't really my strong point.  Web-based application development, on the other hand, is.  So if you want a website that your customers can interact with, or if you want a customer records database that your staff will actually use, I can help.  Using industry-standard tools like ASP.NET and SQL Server, I can build a system that exactly fits your needs and which will be easy to modify as your business grows or changes.

No matter how simple or complex your IT systems are, they are no good to your business if they are not working properly.  Helping you resolve any issues is a good first step, but understanding the root cause and ensuring you don't keep having the same issues is where I can really add value to your business.

data security
The data you hold can be a massive asset to your business, but it is also a big responsibility.  At best, losing control of it could be annoying or embarrassing - at worst, it could be disastrous.  The Information Commissioner's Office is taking an increasingly hard line on companies who do not comply with the Data Protection Act, so if your business holds any client information then you simply cannot afford for it to be insecure.  Drawing on the work I have done in the finance and healthcare sectors, I can interpret their rigorous standards and adapt them to your business, striking the right balance between security and practicality.

Over the years, I've been exposed to a lot of different aspects of IT.  So whatever challenge you're facing, chances are I've come across something similar before and I can help you.

I'm confident there are lots of ways I can help your business, but I'm also experienced enough to know that I don't know it all.   If I don't think I can help you, I'll tell you straight away.  I've built up a lot of contacts over the years too, so if I can't help you out, I can very likely put you in touch with someone who can.

Basically, if you've got any query at all about how your business uses computers, I'd be happy to have a chat to you about it.
